Soldiers preparing to deploy to Afghanistan may soon begin training on the military simulator, developed by U.S. company Alliance Cyberspace and its Toronto-based partner Nytric.

“Everybody we show this to wants one,” [Craig Whelden] said. “They need this technology. The only simulator the army is using now is one that was developed in the 1980s for tanks. It’s got blocky animation and was made during the Cold War, when the thinking was that we needed to train for a battle that would be fought across the plains of northern Europe … Now, our soldiers are engaged in cities and the army doesn’t have a simulator to help them prepare for that.”
